Furniture has the power to determine the way in which people will perceive a space while offering them comfort and durability. The Muku collection created by Foster + Partners Industrial Design for Okamura, which is a Japanese furniture company, represents an approach to furniture design based on emphasizing the inherent qualities of solid timber through sophisticated and well-engineered designs.
Muku means “pure” or “solid” in Japanese and is a direct allusion to the design philosophy followed by the furniture pieces from the Muku collection. The furniture in question does not seek to hide but emphasize the qualities of the solid wood used in it.

Each component has been fashioned by means of precise engineering and woodworking techniques, creating elegant designs that look light but have incredible structural strength.
