In taking cues from the tradition of British river boats, Foster + Partners Industrial Design has updated the classic punt design. The Column Punt reflects the spirit of craftsmanship while incorporating the principles of refinement in details, modern construction methods, and proper proportions that increase performance and simplicity. It combines respect for the tradition of handmade water vessels with a modern take on the classic design. Designed in cooperation with craftsmen, this project is based on the concepts of precision, durability, and elegance. All the elements have been thoroughly considered to create something timeless, not nostalgic.

This particular boat features clean lines and a material honesty that defines the design. Wood has been used as the main building material, enabling the boat to show off the natural beauty of its grain and texture. It is worth mentioning that the design does not hide the process of construction; on the contrary, it highlights the high quality of craftsmanship. In addition, some adjustments have been made to the hull and structure, which make the design more functional without losing the classic appearance of the punt.
